The size of cultured pearls is measured by their diameter (in millimeters) and can reach up to 20 mm. The size depends on two factors: the thickness of the culture and the size of the implanted nucleus. A pearl can be of little value if, despite being large, its nacre layer is very thin, since in addition to affecting its beauty, it can crack or change color over time.
