For hundreds of years, the ruby has been considered one of the most valued gemstones, thanks to its marvelous color, excellent hardness, and great brilliance. It is also a rare gem, especially in high quality.
Its beauty, magnificent colors, transparency, resistance, and hardness are the main characteristics attributed to the ruby. Like sapphire, it belongs to the Corundum family, making it second in hardness only to diamonds.
Color is probably the most important characteristic of a ruby, with inclusions being a secondary characteristic unless they affect its transparency. The cut is also an important aspect; only a good cut can enhance the beauty of a good stone.
